How to Install .APK Files
Installing an .APK File is not difficult at all, especially for the tech savvy users out there. However if you have no experience or lack the necessary technical knowledge, this guide will provide you with the means to do so.Step 1: Helpful Tools
In my experience, it is easier to have Astro File Manager for the organization and management of the files within your Android Device. In the Android Emulation Community, a file manager is one of the necessities (enables .ZIP recognition). It is highly recommended to get a file manager, Astro is my favorite however other may work as well.
Step 2: Connect Phone to PC
Connect the USB cord to your Android mobile device then to your Computer. On your Android mobile device, you will get a notice, click Turn ON USB Storage (this sometimes differs on phones). *Skip STEPS 2-3 if the .APK is already on your Android device.
Step 3: Transfer .APK
Drag n' Drop the .APK file into any directory on your phone (such as /download). Remember to click Turn OFF USB Storage when you are done! This safely un-mounts your USB.
Step 4: Open Astro File Manager
Open Astro File Manager and click "File Manager". Afterwards, you will see a bunch of folders. Navigate to where you placed the .APK File and click the .APK File. Depending on the version, you should get 3 options: Browse File, Open App Manager, and Install. Click Install and follow all the necessary prompts that follow.
Step 5: Optional
If you get a message saying: "Install Blocked. For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market", go to Settings > Applications > check the box which says Unknown Sources.

This will work perfectly assuming you're using Astro File Manager. If you download the APK via Android Mobile Device, you can actually click the downloaded file and you should see "Package Installer." If you do not, just follow the steps documented in this guide. Hope this helps!
